Our Mission Statement
Sayre Christian Village is a nonprofit senior living community dedicated to providing quality housing, rehabilitation services and long-term nursing care reflecting Christian compassion for everyone.
Our History
Sayre Christian Village was founded by the non-denominational fellowship of Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in Kentucky.
On December 5, 1972 the vision was cast by a group of 16 Christian Ministers and Christian laymen to develop a nonprofit retirement community that would provide continuous care in a Christian environment.
Christian Benevolent Outreach, Inc. (CBO), Sayre's parent organization, began its ministry in 1975 with a gift of land from Broadway Christian Church.
Broadway gifted the land to CBO for development of a community to serve older adults.
Sayre Christian Village became a reality with the opening of Baunta Apartments in 1983 serving independent older adults.
In 1984, the Sayre Healthcare Center was added, which provides Long Term Skilled Nursing Care.
In 1987 Friendship Towers was opened, also providing independent living apartments for older adults. In the late 80's, Friendship Towers was ONLY independent living. There was no assisted living option at that time.
In 2002 Friendship Towers became certified to provide Assisted Living to "those who need a little extra help" to remain independent.
In 2009 Forest View Apartments, designed for lower-income independent older adults. The campus now had two HUD certified independent apartment complexes, Baunta and Forest View Apartments.
The Healthcare Center grew with the addition of the spacious Life Enrichment Center which added so much to the quality of life for all long-term care resident.
The large space has been such a blessing and unique in the local area for having such a large open space for events and activities.
One of the other additions was the Human Resources wing with training center and the Orthopedic wing, that has since been converted to two entire wings for dementia care.
The Therapy gyms and kitchen were also added during this addition and now Sayre Healthcare Center boasts Lexington's Favorite Physical Therapy, as voted on by Herald Leader Readers in the Readers' Choice Awards for 2019 and 2020.
When Friendship Towers opened in the 80's, it was simply apartment units for independent older adults.
Later, it became duly-certified for assisted living as well. However, because the building was originally built as apartment units, it didn't have all the bells and whistles that are common in assisted living communities.
The Expansion opened in February of 2021 and boasts the addition of 15 of the largest assisted living apartments in the area.
Friendship Towers is also being upgraded with an expansive new onsite kitchen, restaurant-style dining room, café, several resident lounges and huge multi-purpose room for events and activities.
The original building received a refresh with matching décor and finishings in all the common spaces and apartments to mirror the Expansion.
A new beauty salon, fitness center/outpatient therapy center was added, as well as more office space.
