There is something truly special about celebrating a century of life. Thank you to FOX 56 News for sharing Sayre Christian Village resident Gilbert “G.B.” Jones’ incredible milestone with viewers across Central Kentucky.
On July 27, G.B. celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by family, friends, fellow residents, and staff at Friendship Towers. FOX 56 visited our campus to capture this memorable occasion and highlight the remarkable life story of a man who has touched so many lives.
A proud World War II veteran, G.B. has lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. After serving his country, he spent many years working as a tool and die maker and shared 73 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hazel. Today, he continues to inspire those around him with his positive outlook, warm smile, and humble spirit.
The milestone birthday was filled with music, birthday cake, fellowship, and heartfelt moments. G.B. was recognized with a proclamation from Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton, received a congratulatory letter from Governor Andy Beshear, and celebrated alongside another Kentucky icon—Ale-8-One, which is also marking its 100th anniversary this year.
When FOX 56 asked G.B. the secret to living a long and meaningful life, his answer reflected the values that have guided him for the past century:
“A lot of clean living and going to church.”
His faith has remained a constant throughout his life, and he humbly credits the Lord for watching over him.
