Project C.A.R.E 2026: Learning at Sayre Christian Village
Sayre Christian Village recently hosted Project C.A.R.E 2026 in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) Connections Program. This event gave students the chance to practice real job skills while spending time in our community.
What is the Connections Program?
As a Connections Site, Sayre helps students learn important life and work skills in a supportive environment. Students in the program:
- Practice real job skills
- Learn about workplace expectations
- Connect with residents and staff
This hands-on approach builds confidence and prepares students for life after high school.
Fun and Learning
At the event, students rotated through stations, earned badges in their Job Skills Passports, and won prizes. The day was full of energy, smiles, and learning—showing the value of the Connections Program for students and the community.
“The program lets students learn directly from staff and interact with residents. Sayre gives them many roles to practice social and job skills while connecting with the community.”
— Emmitt Murphy, Employment Training Specialist, FCPS
Learning by Doing
Students get hands-on experience instead of just classroom learning. They:
- Help with daily activities
- Greet residents and staff
- Work as part of a team
Our staff mentor students every step of the way to make sure they feel supported and successful.
Making Friendships
Students also make real connections with residents and staff.
“Students like Taylor bring so much joy. They help with meals, set tables, and spend time talking with residents. It’s wonderful for everyone to see their happiness and energy.”
— Faith Charney, Server, Sayre Christian Village-Friendship Towers

There are many ways to make a difference at Sayre Christian Village.
A Valued Part of Our Community
Students in the Connections Program are a beloved part of life at Sayre. Residents enjoy watching their growth and celebrating their achievements.
“Our students have fallen in love with Sayre. They’re welcomed by residents, staff, and families. In March, we’ll celebrate with a life skills social, students, residents, and staff together with games, music, and food. It’s a great partnership!”
— Emmitt Murphy, Employment Training Specialist, FCPS
