Dear SCV Residents, Staff, Supporters, Board Members, and Community Partners,
As many of you know, in the fall of 2023, Southland Christian Church graciously shared its intent to gift a parcel of land to Sayre Christian Village for future development. This incredible opportunity sparked excitement and inspired us to begin initial planning and vision casting around how we could expand our ministry and mission to serve more older adults in Central Kentucky.
Over the past several months, we have worked in good faith to explore the potential of this gift, including creating conceptual site plans and conducting early-stage fundraising and feasibility efforts. During that time, Southland has experienced a period of leadership transition and prayerful discernment about how best to steward their resources and long-term vision.
After much consideration, Southland’s staff and elders have shared with us their decision that Sayre Christian Village will not move forward with development on the Nicholasville campus property. While we are disappointed, we respect and fully understand their decision and remain grateful for the heart and generosity that brought us into these conversations in the first place.
We want to be transparent about a few key things as we move forward:
• Southland has expressed a strong desire to continue supporting Sayre’s ministry in meaningful ways, including sharing their expertise in land acquisition and development, as well as committing to help financially support future opportunities.
• Additionally, Southland has graciously offered to cover expenses Sayre has incurred during our initial planning process related to the Nicholasville property.
• We are still excited and fully committed to the future of Sayre’s expansion. The need for affordable, compassionate, Christ-centered senior living continues to grow, and our mission remains unchanged.
We are continuing to pursue the vision and momentum that this opportunity helped us build. We are grateful for the partnerships that have come from it and the clarity it has given us to prayerfully pursue a path forward that honors both our mission and the stewardship entrusted to us.
In the meantime, we are looking forward to our upcoming fundraising event on August 10, 2025, which will still be held at Southland Christian Church, and we are deeply thankful for their continued hospitality and support. Thank you for walking with us. We remain faithful and expectant for what God has in store for Sayre Christian Village.
With gratitude,
Karen L. Venis
